Feb 18th 1959 — Jun 16th 2023 (64 years)

Biography

Robert Duane Bateman passed away peacefully on June 16, 2023 at Toronto General Hospital at the age of 64. Duane will be greatly missed by his wife Andrea and their children Samantha (Duncan) and Ben (Alicia).

Duane was born in Belleville, Ontario to father Robert Bateman and mother Audrey Devolin on February 18th, 1959. He grew up on his family's farm in Madoc with his siblings Bill (Michele), Tammy (Tom), Rob (Mabel), Sherry Patterson (Dale) and Joanne. Duane will be missed by his stepmother June Way and her children Elizabeth, Janice and Charles.

Always surrounded by family, Duane will be remembered for his humor and laughter by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Debbie Evans, Larry Evans (Barb), Ron Evans (Maxine) and Yvonne Fox (Raymond).  Duane will also be missed by his Evans, Bateman and Devolin extended family members.

In 1978 Duane started at Sir Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo Ontario, where he met his loving wife Andrea. During their time in Waterloo, they shared many incredible memories, particularly at Oktoberfest every year. Duane and Andrea were married on May 3, 1986 and settled down in Ajax, Ontario where they raised their children. As a father, Duane was a dedicated coach and fan for Sam and Ben’s hockey, lacrosse and football teams. As a family they enjoyed many trips to the states and have special memories from Darien Lake, the Anchor Bar, Famous Dave’s BBQ, Mackinac Island and more.

Duane generously elected to be an organ donor and was able to change the lives of 2 other people and their families.  We are incredibly grateful for the team of nurses and doctors at Toronto General Hospital for their incredible expertise, patience and care for our family.  In memory of Duane please consider donating to one of the following organizations: Canadian Tire Jumpstart (https://donate.jmpst.ca/DIYevent/DuaneBateman)  to support children’s access to sports and extracurricular activities or The O’Hara Mill Conservation (https://www.oharamill.ca/), a conservation area near Duane’s childhood home and an important part of the Bateman family.

There will be a Celebration of Life gathering to remember the beautiful life of Duane Bateman on Saturday July 15th, 2023 held at the Centennial Building in the Regal Room in Whitby from 12pm-3pm.
